Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter of their family. In her early years, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father died and forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as an attendant or cleaner to help them be able to survive. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She attended school in the area. In the midst of only two years in school she left for the acting career. This path was fraught with difficulties. When she was offered a job as a model in New York as a model for a detective magazine, she had a difficult time trying to secure opportunities on stage. Her next job was as a "hat check" lady at a club before she gave up and moved back to Boston. It was there that she earned a living in the ushering industry during the in the daytime, while at night she was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. Drama studies led her to graduate at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
